Default sub floor overlay

I'm going to be laying down a new sub floor in my upstairs. Currently there is the original pine board sub floor. I'm going to be putting down 3/4 OSB over the pine boards. How tight of a fit should I aim for. Should I have an expansion gap or not? Is laying it down with a 1/8 or 1/4 inch gap to much around the edges? Most of it will have carpet on it but there is about 110 square feet that will have a glue down engineered hardwood. I'm not sure if it matters or not but I had to cut the 4X8 sheets down to 4X4 to get them up the stairs due to a tight corner at the bottom.

Hi, I'm Billy Kidd, I'm here at Expert Village and we're going to talk about five-three defense. With the five-three defense you've got this nose tackle that you're pretty much always going to give a side to with this linebacker right here. When I say... Read More »

Depending on the material used for the backerboard, it will change shape over time. Your tile and countertops will begin to show wear and could move out of place. To avoid this, you should leave room for the expansion. An eighth-inch is a good size for... Read More »
