Standard Height of moulding?

Hello. I am planning on adding high boxed moulding similar to this picture.

http://img2.timeinc.net/toh/i/g/10/i...ainscot-00.jpg

I've attached the site as well if you can't open it above.

My living room has 9 foot ceilings with crown moulding around the top and is approx. 15x13 in size. I am curious how high up the wall I should take the moulding. I've read 2/3rds up to whatever you want. I'd like to do what is standard. Is there a standard? And do my room dimensions warrant a better height over another? Also can anyone approximate how high it is shown in the picture.

Thanks

Standard Height of moulding?

Welcome to the forum silbella.

I don’t think there is really a “stranded height” but if there was it would be closer to 1/3 up the wall rather than 2/3. The picture you show is to high IMO.

The ones I’ve done have been from 32-40”. The height being determent by things like window sill height and other things in the room and how it will all tie together. Basically it can be whatever looks good to you.

Standard Height of moulding?

Perhaps an inch or so above the height of your dining chair?

Standard Height of moulding?

silbella....if one were to employ the golden ratio, your paneling could be
66 3/4" or 41 1/4" from the floor.

Standard Height of moulding?

This is done so infrequently these days, the "standard" terminology is well. not too standard.
These were popular in houses I've seen built in the '20's and '30's. As 12Penney states, they were in the 66" range in houses with 8 foot ceilings.
