Staircase wainscoat angle
 

This angle is driving me nuts. Look at this pic

How do you cut the lower acute angle on the box? The stair angle is 48 deg and I guess that should be the lower angle.

So if I cut the base cap at 24 degrees on my saw, I get the other obtuse angle on the box (132 degrees).

If you miter at 45 degrees, you obviously get a 90 degree angle.

Seems I would have to miter above 45, but my saw goes up to 48. The only solution I have so far is cutting a 48 degree, and butting the other piece without a miter.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Set up a jig on the saw so you can get a 48 degee angle.

You can make that angle on a table saw with a decent miter guage. Or you can use your miter saw as Ron suggested and clamp down a 90° fence on the table to work off of.

Don't have a table saw. If I clamp the 90 deg fence, I would then miter each piece at 48 or 24?

You would divide the overall angle in half for each cut to get the angle you want. Test it on some scrap pieces before you use the good stuff just in case it's a little off.

Came out perfect. The table would have to miter at 66 degrees to make that angle, so the jig is necessary.
