Staircase repair

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping some of you experts can help me out with some advice on what my options are to repair damage to my staircase by my cat. When it was a kitten it decided it liked to chew wood, especially corners. Now that it is older and no longer chewing it I would like do something to fix it but have not clue what my options are beyond replacing the entire staircase, which I really do not want to do due to what I am sure is very expensive process. I've posted a picture below and you can see more of the damage here.

The damage is multiple places up and down the staircase.

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!

Wow, Ive never seen what happens when you cross Bucky Beaver with a Jack Russell Terrier, but there it is!

That would have happened just once in my house.
Sorry but that wood needs to be replaced.
If you would back up and take another picture that would help to figure out what needs to be done.

Well you could make a plumb cut on the bottom of the stringer, and you could take a piece of 1 x 3 ( 3/4 x 2.5 Actual ) clear pine or oak, and round over the inside edge, then attach it with finishing nails to the top of the existing stringer. It would be helpful to see more of it though, as Joe says.

What can I say I'm an animal lover. The link I posted is to a gallery that has more pics including a full shot of the staircase. I can provide any specific angles just let me know. Thanks for your help.
