stair trim help needed

We have recently replace our carpeted stairs with solid oak bull-nose steps. The steps are in, stained and sealed, but they do not extend to both walls. WE have been trying to find a quarter round trim that will help to cover the side gaps, but are not finding anything. Do you have any suggestions? We have considered adding a straight trim board on each side by using a router to fit the trim around the bull-nose, but this seems like a very difficult and probably impossible task. Thank you

how big is the gap? can you cut slivers from another tread and glue them in place to fill the gap? why did you get treads that were too short?

You won't need to route out for the nosing, cut the nosing so the skirt board fits tightly. here is a link to how one person did it.

Post a picture. I'm also wondering why the treads were not skirt to skirt.
