Sliding Glass Door: Inserts or Replace?

HI: I have the old aluminum frame 1 fixed the other sliding, slinging glass doors.

They are not plumb and leak air badly. They are in a rental apartment and go out to a balcony.

Are their retrofit replacement windows that can go inside the existing aluminum frame so I don't have to pull out the existing frame?

THanks,

Tom

Just to clarify your post, I am NOT techy.

Are you reeferring to a retrofit kit that goes inside the existing aluminum frame?

Can you give me the names of some manufacturers or sources?

Thanks,

Tom

DO this go inside the existing aluminum frame, like a frame within a frame or is it a tear out and replace?

This is for a rental unit. Need to avoid overkill & Cost..

Thanks for your help,

Tom

the actuall aluminum frame that you see gets removed but the nail on part that is nailed into the studs and has stucco/siding over it does not .

the window wil lcost you anywhere from 150-350 depending on size and the labor is fairly easy. you will not damage the stucco or drywall. you might need to also purchase some molding as well depending on what u currently have installed.

MY current ALum frame is not plumb. If I use a retrofit can this be compensated for with shims?
