Siding and rain screen

28 year old T&G cedar vertical siding. Siding had issue with painting peeling and hired wrong painter and we had not able to maintain the condition.

We are looking at couple of options to correct and solve our issues.

We have some rotted area and we have rain season from October to March every year.

First option: Replace rotted area only and try go with painting.
Painting company suggest to go with 2 good oil primer and 2
coat of latex with some of sheen.

2nd option: Mix hardie panel on flat areas and as we have some radius,
we want to use T&G cedar on radius areas with natural
wood to show thru and mix.

Definitely, we can save some cost from first option, but cost is not totally less.

Because we have so much rain, we want to go with 2nd option and use rain screen to make sure we have better protection from weather.

My questions:

Hardie panel: I have seen few of hardie panel siding around, but some were bad and some were good. Some had gromet and some didn't.
I heard that one's with gromet is most expensive. If we go without gromet, what do we need to look for hiring siding company without going over board on cost?

Rain screen: I need afforadable rain screen that will work great.
Please suggest us name to go with without breaking bank.

T&G Cedar: Current siding is latex painted. If we hire a painter, can we save this and be used in radius area? or will it be best to use new ones?

Because we need to replace windows too, we are trying to choose best workable option and also to save cost using what we have.

Look forward to best advise and suggestions from all of you.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

A rain screen is not a product which you can compare different brands. A rain screen is a siding installation detail, you can only compare cost from bids you receive from local contractors.

I would like to help you but I think we speak different languages. If you can ask one question at a time and post a picture with that question then maybe there’s hope.
