Siding issue

OK guys, here is my issue -- I am having to replace a small section of horizontal siding(currently Masonite). I have found an almost perfect replacement in LP Smart Siding, but it is not smooth -- it has the rough texture or wood grain look. Is there anything I can apply to the siding to smooth it out prior to painting?

Also, since the area I need to replace is my chimney surround only above my roof do you even think it will be noticeable with the rough texture?

Thx a bunch,

Happy

you can smooth it out with finishing putty from an auto supply store. But if it a few stories high you might not notice it. Tack a piece in place and see what it looks like first.
