I have a router and the router bits. The instructions tell me how to use the router, how to attach the bits etc but as I have never used a router I have no idea what each bit does and how to use it. Is there a site I can look up or a book I can buy that will show me what each bit does. I am a visual person and need to see what the result is.

Ayuh,.....Find some scrap wood,+ Have at It.......

The router Bit will leave an exact Inverse copy of itself in the wood......

I really believe you should find a knowledgeable person to get you started PROPERLY. Just by your question, you are not ready to tackle a router just by reading. Your are going to SEVERELY hurt yourself or someone else.
Try your local lumber yard (not big box type) or a cabinet maker in the area. Invest a few dollars in their knowledge & experience...it could save your eye or definitely a few fingers.

Thank you for your replies I went to the local library and got out some books but I find that I really need to be shown. Unfortunately if I approach a man he seems to prefer to actually do the job then show me 'how it is done' but I will try to approach perhaps a wood work group.
