Rifle Crate coffee table

Hello all I am a complete novice in the woodworking world and need to be pointed in the right direction. I stumbled upon a old rifle crate coffee table

I instantly wanted to make one and called all my local gun and sport shops trying to find a crate but they're long gone. Scowered ebay/amazon etc, no luck. Then I found a page where someone had the same problem and started one himself seen here:

I would like mine to be 4x2 and similiar to the above mentioned. Anybody interested in helping me out?

If you have not started yet find and army surplus store near by.
I just saw a whole stack of them in my local store.
No knows where you are because you did not add your location to your profile so it's hard to suggest a place.
I just used Bing to search "army surplus store locations" and hundreds came up.
I use "rifle crates" and tons of them for sale came up.

I live in Long Island. NY, tried calling a couple near by no luck. I think the best bet, and cheapest would be to get the wood.

Looks like a fairly simple box. If you want it to look rustic get some pallets and knock them apart to use the wood.

You might start with describing what tools and/or woodworking experience you have.

In your shoes, I might look online (ebay or where ever) and find plans that are close to what you have in mind. Then adjust the dimensions to whatever you want them to be.

I like it. Especially with the lights inside. Build it soon. Enjoy it as long as you can, because when you get married, your wife will get rid of it. ;^)
