replacing kitchen drawer slides
Hi,
I've been doing a lot of research and visiting many of the sites recommended to buy replacement drawer slides. Maybe I am missing something...but my drawers are 18" deep and 20 3/4" wide. But I have frame face cabinets and the cabinet depth is 23". There is no clearance for side mount slides so I want to use undermount slides. There is 13/16" between the side of the cabinet and the drawer opening on each side. The drawer has about 1/4" total clearance. Can somebody tell me if I buy a 21 or 22" slide, will it work? Something like this: http://www.outwatercatalogs.com/lg_d..._2012/page/281 or this: http://www.wwhardware.com/kv-tt100-e...slide-kvtt100/ be ok? Thanks so much. Gerry |
I hate side mount slides for kitchen drawers.....
You need to look at the specs on the slide....they will give you a min and max depth. For a good reference, visit Rockler.com and do a search on drawer slides. Unless they are on sale, they tend to be expensive. But they have some good stuff. Also do a search on self closing slides. The under mount slides I have used had a bit of built in 'slop' in them....in other words, one side was fixed on position, but the other side gave you about 1/8th to a 1/4" of variation on position. |

Hi and thanks for responding...guess I was not clear...let me try this...if I buy a 21 inch slide to fit the cabinet, can I still use my existing 18 inch drawers?
Thanks again. |
Yes--you can use any size drawer you wish----the rails need to be sized for the cabinet box---as to the drawers---any depth will attach to the rails.

hi oh'mike
many of the slides i have seen say not for retrofit or the drawer must be built to spec. do you know of a specific slide that can be used for retrofit and that could accommodate any size smaller drawer? Thanks again and sorry to be pesky, |
With a retro fit--you need to just see what will work---no easy secret----you will need to know the height --distance--that the drawer bottom is above the face frame opening---

Is there a Rockler store near you?
If not, at least try their web site....lots of good info. |
