Replacing the casing on the outside of the window

New here, but looks like i could get a little help with a rather simple question. So the outside molding around my windows seems to be rotting. So I went out and bought some 1"x6" PVC boards to repair. Bought the PVC sill as well. Here comes the easy question. What type and size nails should I use? I was thinking 8D.

Replacing the casing on the outside of the window

Those will work as long as they are long enough to penetrate what your attaching to and get a good hold. Galvanized if you staining or caulk over the heads if your painting.

Replacing the casing on the outside of the window

As stated already: Galvanized, or Stainless Steel. 8d is fine.

And worth finding true hot dipped, not the cheapo electro plated junk that will rust anyway. I am always amazed when I see people using products such as these with trash fasteners....just love to see guys fastening a product with a 50 year life span with a 16ga gun nail with a one year exterior life span.

I agree completely. Hot dipped or stainless. (Even the Electro will break down and bleed stains onto siding)
Doing a Hardiplank install next month. Priced it for Stainless fasteners.

What did you figure the increase in price over standard galvanized nails was? The last stuff I installed on our house (ICF) I had to screw it on...not fun.

Price difference was about $37.00 per case for ring-shank Electro VS. $109.00 per case with the Stainless ring-shanks. These were for Bostich siding guns.
