replace trim on a laminate wall unit

20yrs ago i had this beautiful laminated wall unit built, its huge, 3pieces, the thing is there is a 3/4 inch wide gold trim stripping that we would like to replace/update. should we paint it and what type of paint would stick to the stripping, OR try to 'peel' it off and try to find new stripping? painting would def. be the easiest cause it d be next to impossible to disassemble this monstrocity ! helppppppppppppppp!

replace trim on a laminate wall unit

well,,if i could get the stripping off cleanly, i guess it would be nice to find the same type of stripping but maybe in a brushed silver,,,or 'antiguie' look. if thats not possible try to paint it. to paint it i d probably have to gently sand it and prime it and find a color,,but then if the paint doesnt work/stick,,i m in trouble. i had a girl at a home store research and couldnt really find another stripping that exact size. thanks for any help !

you could paint it, if you know how to use a spray can. just tape it off, scuff it with fine steel wool, clean well. then paint.

oh, you should find out if it has a clear plastic coating on it. though, i doubt that matters.

The key word here is monstrosity. That gives away how you really feel about it. Changing the trim is not going to change the fact that you no longer like it. Put it on Ebay. People buy anything.
