Removing vinyl siding from cedar

If someone has installed vinyl siding over old cedar siding, can I remove the vinyl and expect the cedar siding to still be viable? I'd like to remove the vinyl and repaint the cedar

Be ready to make some repairs and/or replacing claps and trim.
Sometimes some of the old trim or moldings are removed to
facilitate the Vinyl installation.
If the house was built before 1978,which seems likely you
may want to read up on the lead paint precautions that should be followed
during any repair or prep work to follow.
