Removing interior living room walls

The walls of our living room are being removed. The walls look like grainey cement. House is about 80+ years old. I have been told that there will be a lot of powdery dust when the walls are banged down. Should we leave house while work is done? One person in household has asthma, allergies, etc.

That should be done by experts. There is likely asbestos in that stuff, and that requires very special handling and isloating the area.

Here are a few things that we perform when it comes to demolition in a home.
shut off your heating/air cond. system.if its supplied by duck work.
then take plastic ( i use 6 mil) and tape all the registers in the demo area to the walls. including the returns.
cover all doorways that are leading away from the demo area with plastic and tape, make sure the plastic folds onto the floor and is taped. this way the unaffected areas will be dust free and less clean up. It will get dusty so try to keep the other parts of the house dust free. BOB

yes if they have asthma. and make sure the wall are not load bearing if they are and for some miracle the house stays perfectly erect then at some point in the near future it will cause some part of the house to colapse
