Refinish or Replace Interior Stairs

I'm remodeling a home and preparing to either refinish or replace the stariway. I recently installed new dark hardwood floors throughout the home and the steps do not match. That was planned with anticipation of replacing or refinishing the steps. The existing stairs are a combination of carpet and hardwood with the traffic area being plywood covered with carpet and the 12 inches on each end of each step, hardwood.

Now my question, is it going to be possible to refinish the existing wood steps, spindles and railing and get them to match the floor, or should I just go ahead and replace the steps with matching wood and try and find railling to match? I'd like to try and install wrought iron spindles (will that be a problem)? I've included pics to help with the description.

You can easily refurbish the stairs. I would just replace the balusters and stain to match.

If you are going to replace the spindles and hand rail---I think I would replace the treads and risers ,too.

You have rather short 'fake' treads and risers--the cost may not be out of the budget.
