Refacing Painted Cabinets
I am refacing my latex painted plywood bathroom cabinets with a birch veneer. Do I need to strip the latex paint before adhering the veneer?

You will definetly want to remove the paint. I recommend you use a heat gun (don't buy a cheap one, they don't work)

I had already bought some brushable paste paint stripper, but you recommend a heat gun. Is the heat gun better? Or should I use in conjunction with the stripper?

On any flat surface you will WANT to use a heat gun. Once you try a chemical stripper and try a heat gun you'll understand. Do not use stripper with the heat gun.

Yeh, I thought about how stupid that was after I asked it. I got a good heat gun I think(Wagner HT775), but it seems like a long process. This paint doesn't seem to blister and just gets rubbery and hard to scrape.

I think I've finally got the hang of this. When I get finished stripping most of the paint, I figure I need to sand it smooth. Do I have to remove all the paint before attaching the veneer with contact cement?
