Recomended thickness for Risers?

I am putting in hardwood flooring, I have 2 exsiting stairs to cover (1 is 100" long, 2 is just over 6') I am going to get treads made.
I am thinking of using 1"x8" oak plank for the riser ( I will stain to match hardwood).
Will this be fine or does anyone have any other suggestions.

Thanks for your time and any help

1 x is standard riser material stock.

Example:

Before: 1 X (Crap-ola)

After: 1 x (Poplar)
