question about kreg jig.

evening folks. I kind of ran in to a probelm with the kreg jig and i have not been able to find any topics on it on the internet.

Anyhow i was working on a project and i cut a 2x4 at opposing 45 degree bevel angles. I tried to figure how to make the pocket holes on the short side of the wood but when i drilled it through, it tore through the wood. Now I did just realize that i had the bit setup incorrectly. I used the "tip" for the reference point instead of the "step" when setting the depthy. IDK if that would cause the problem but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

question about kreg jig.

I only recently bought a Kreg jig, so don't have a lot of experience with it yet, but it is simply one more tool in the inventory, no better nor worse than any other tool in the sense that each one has its' place. I suppose that you could cheat it up the piece a bit, in order to position the screws farther back in the meat, but I would personally put it back on the shelf and use a half miter, biscuits, dowels, or other means for that type of joint.

question about kreg jig.

I usually have plenty of scrap pieces to practice on when I venture into new territory. Realizing this bit of advise won't help salvage those two pieces of wood but at least you'll have scrap pieces to learn on just like I have.

On 2x4 S/W and up I have only used
90 Joints.
I like the Kreg HD Jig that is needed to use the beefy No.14 Kreg Screws.
What is your application that needs 45 bevel angels?
