prehung interior door hanging

drewhart,

You should not shim and nail your top jamb, if there is any later movement/settling of the house it will through your door out of plumb. Just work on the side jambs (hinge side first) and after the door is in, on a least the top hinge replace one of the screws with a 2 1/2" screw to secure the door to the stud behind the hinge side jamb. You should only need 3 or 4 finish nails on each jamb. When you put your trim on it will make the door more sound and secure.

Best of luck with the project, rredogg

Great advice drewhart. Leave the top alone.
