Question

Pole Barn Girts, etc...

Hi,
First timer here, be gentle. So, I'm building a pole barn. 20'wide, 24' long, utilizing six telephone poles. My trusses will span the width, 20' between the girts that will in turn span the length, 24' (12' between poles). I'm looking for tips on building the girts. Roof 4/12 pitch, Trusses 24" OC w/ a metal roof. figiure the snow load @ 60 PSF.

Okay, gimme your ideas on girts. 2x10's? Doubled, tripled? How would you stagger them? Probably basic stuff to some of you. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!

Pole Barn Girts, etc...

So the issue of snow never an issue. Sorry.

One is 36x12 and the other is 12x12. My poles were 4x6's which, after 10 years, probably should have been 6x6's.

As for girts. My preference is 2x6's. I put them on the exterior. Since we have horses, we also put up 3/4" plywood (so the suckers don't kick through the sheet metal) on the exterior, attached to the girts.

On the interior I like to use 2x4's at an angle.

But as they say, your milage may vary.

I haven't staggered them, nor would be able to give you reasons pro/con. Sorry.

Attached is an example of what I'm talking about...
