Picture Framing Deck

I am building a 10x12 composite deck with vinyl railings. I am having trouble with the framing detail to accomplish the picture framing. I am going to picture frame with one row around the deck. Can some add a framing detail for this? I will also have to frame around the pressure treated 4x4's needed for the vinyl railing.

2x8 framing
5' off the ground
4' wide stairs

You just need to add framing as needed. Block every 16 or 24” when the joist run parallel. Head out around post etc.

I wasn't sure if the blocking would be better or if I should just double the outside joist to pickup the picture frame decking and then double the joist where the end decking would land up against the picture framed decking.

I have always run a 2x6 along the entire outside. Were it is parallel, add blocking 1.5" below the top of the joist and the 2x6 will rest on top of that. This will give you continuous framing along the outside and will provide ample screwing/support for your ribbon (aka picture frame).

Also, this gives you a lot of flexibility in figuring the amount of overhang you want.
