Patio sliding door,Retro or new construction.

I have already done one of our windows with the retro fit type.
It was not to bad.The old window was bowed pretty bad,The out side
fin bareley covered the old aluminum frame in one spot but it turned
out pretty good for my first window.
Now I am looking at doing this sliding glass door with vinyl slider.
After looking how bowed and rotted this frame is and also the
stucco is pretty bad around this door,I think it is pretty much
a no brainer to go with a new construction type door.
I have a question Thou?
I do not think I am going to try to tackle this job myself.
I am wondering about how much this is going to cost.
I was looking at some doors at lowes and for a pretty decent
one it was around 600.00 which does not seem to bad but I have
no idea what the labor would cost.
Any one have any idea's.
Would this be one of those things where the installer would want
to use there own door?
Doug

Patio sliding door,Retro or new construction.

Hey Doug,

When I installed my sliding glass door, I had put an keyless lock onto the sliding glass door, when I had done so, I tried to tackle the job myself but found it very hard to do so. So, I had called the lock company,www.thekeylesslock.com. They had given me a free install because I was in the area. OF course I did my research, and it would've costed me around $75.00/hour and the guy quoted me around 4-5 hours. I hope this got to you in time.

Doug, There are different types of installers;
A) The type that will do any thing for some $$$.
B) The type that will only install quality products so that a poor quality product will not make them look bad.
C) The type that will try to make a profit on both their labor and the product by only installing want they sell.

Lowes sells a quality Pella clad unit (wood inside and clad on the exterior). Their vinyl doors are another story.

Hi fhivinylwindows
I installed one of the vinyl Pella windows and I like it.
From what you sounded like when you said pella vinyl doors
are another story. It sounds like the doors are not very good ?
What is clad?
Are the retrofit sliding glass doors pretty much installed like
windows?
Thanks Doug
