M planning on building a base cabinet out of non pt material out by my pool. The countertop will be tiled and It will be completely covered from the rain and will not be sitting directly on the concrete.
My ? is, will the non pt hold up ok?
Also, when constructing the top, is pt plywood needed? Do I need a wp membrane? Was thinking about slate tile... Good or bad choice?

You don't need pt lumber. There are various types of wood which hold up reasonably well outdoors and yours will be shielded from the elements.

I build my countertops indoors with a layer of 3/4" plywood over the 3/4" plywood cabinet tops, then a layer of 1/2" tilebacker. I like to use denshield. I grout with epoxy or urethane. I like to use a wood edge.

You may as well use a waterproof tilebacker, but you can use durock if you like.

The wood edging would be your demise outdoors if it were exposed to the sunlight and elements. In your case, however, I would build pretty much the same as if it were to be indoors.

I don't have much experience with slate, other than floors, and I'm not a big fan of it on floors. I'm sure it will be fine for your application. If you want to have something more durable, you can find a porcelain which mimics the look of slate.

We built an outdoor bar/ serving counter on our deck Twelve or
thirteen years ago. We used cedar and a ceramic tile top. It is exposed
to the elements. It has held up well.
We cut slats for the sides
because it houses two small under the counter fridges, and we
wanted the air to circulate.
Btw, the edge of the top is cedar.

Just re-read your post. You said it will not be sitting directly on the cement? where will it be sitting?

This is ours, I know I'm a picture posting fool. We use these fridges
all year long.

this is from July 2011...we also have a cliff-rigged running water to it from
our hose.
