Other Uses for OSB
So I have basically an unlimited supply of free OSB - good, half-inch stuff. (Some company that shares the building my girlfriend works at gets daily shipments in crates made of the stuff, and throw most of it away).

Does anyone have any good uses for the stuff?

I'm already all over making an s-ton of shelving for the basement, but given the fact that it's OSB it's really hard to think of anything else to do with it, due to looks (ie, I can't exactly re-do the shelving in the bathroom with the stuff).

If I made a dog house out of it would it last, or would the weather destroy it quickly enough to not make it worth the effort?(New England).

I love free stuff, so I'm trying to get the most out of this :)

yeah, it will work for a dog house, or whatever else outside . but, for it to last, you must paint it well.

what sizes are the pieces you are getting ?

how about a shed ?! with tons of free osb, you could build a bad ass shed.

Great ideas! I was mostly concerned about how the wood would stand up to weather - I know OSB is used for sheathing but it's then covered by some impermeable barrier.... I'll make sure I paint everything well if I use it for outside stuff.

use it like normal for sheathing and what not. osb should not be the sole covering for outdoor applications.

If you use it outside...paint it well....any exposed ends will soak up water like a sponge and start to swell.

Don't depend on it for deflection strength....this is one area where plywood is better for the same thickness.

Board out the attic space with it? though use two layers if only 0.5"

Speaker cabinets? Shelving? Workshop storage cabinets or workbench? Tool storage board? Bird houses/feeders (with same caveat about exterior use)?

Agreed. I should have been more clear. I use OSB as the sides for a workbench. For the tops, I still like ply or 2x.

However, with an unlimited supply of OSB, I might be willing to try laminating two sheets together and use as a top. Smooth side up, of course.

Sometimes I feel like I was born in the depression. I just hate wasting / giving up free stuff :)

Thought about some fun yard games like plinko, bag toss, cornhole? If you store it inside you wouldn't have to worry about weathering.
