OSB sheathing as siding?

I built my shed 7 years ago and when I built I use OSB as siding and painted it. Now the bottom part is rotten I am planning on cutting the rotten part off and replacing it with treated 1x6 boards. And repaint the shed? I am wondering is it a good idea or I need to put up lap siding over the OSB. The top of the OSB is not rottening.

The bottom probably rotted cause the osb wicked water through the edges, that and/or rain splash. If the shed is small, why not just put some vinyl siding over it and be done.
Shouldn't cost that much.

I agree...water wicked up and rotted the OSB. OSB shouldn't be used as the exterior siding.

OSB can be used for structural sheathing (rated as such), not exterior siding (they do make a structural siding panel).
If the shed is large and the panels are for shear transfer, solid wood block the bottom after removing the rot to gain shear value lost from cutting. It is used for sheathing, cover it with a water resistive barrier (as per code) and siding of your choice.

OSB sheathing as siding?

I been thinking about using tounge and groove pine siding since it comes in bundles. I know how much it cost compare to vinyl siding. I need to jack up the shed to put on put blocks and replace rotten sill plates. Then proceed to fixing the roof.

On some houses I've done work on, some wise guy when building them used OSB for siding. On several older homes I've found myself helping the owners in replacing to LP siding.

That said, would you normally use LP siding? It's the most common I come across. (aside from the wood shingles that rot after 4 or 5 years down to the houses plywood) Not sure if the cost would be worth it for a shed or not.

Are the four I've used. They each meet building code, and they last for decades.

But they aren't cheep. TBH, I'd take off the siding for each side of the shed, and simply redo it with appropriate siding. Use the plywood and tyvek as GBR stated, but then try one of these ^^^

I'd use LP on a shed, that's about it though. Just make sure to keep it well painted.

I'm not sure what type of wood shingles your referring too but Red Cedar Shingles are good for 30-50 years (untreated) depending on the exposure to the elements.

THe shingles I've had to replace, were only on the house for 5 years. And they broke apart in my hand. Don't know if they were cedar, just know that they were wooden shingles for siding.

The LP Smartside looks like a good choice. What about T1-11 on top of the OSB?
