Oak molding around dishwasher
Hello,
I need to install oak moldings on either side of my dishwasher. The top molding is different than the two side moldings. The top molding which is larger will be installed the entire length of the countertop where the granite meets the cabinet but NOT over the dishwasher. I am having trouble figuring out the best way the make the corners. What would be the proper way? Sorry but the pictures loaded sideways. ![]()

Typically one would place a square block at the corner and butt the two trims against the sides. Not sure how it would look in your installation, but it usually looks good when used around doorways and windows.

pictures would help a lot. usually you don't have that much room above a dishwasher or on the sides.

Only thing I've seen used around a dishwasher is spacers made of the same material as the cabinets to close up the gaps.
Never seen one trimmed out. |

The bottom looks good but what you say you are doing sounds bizzare. Make sure you pre-drill that oak or it will split, or bend nails, and dont nail too close to the end of the small trim.

Dishwasher lets off a lot of steam and moisture. The oak molding will turn black in short time.
A pin nail will not hold the wood trying to warp. What about the future repairs? If you look at ply or mdf countertop, the area around the dishwasher shows the most damage. There are pvc or foam moldings that you can stain. But I prefer flat stock when joints are awkward. If you must, the second photo, for the least length of joint. I would use brass screws. Countersink the molding and predrill the base with bit diameter that would allow easy hand screwing. |
