No corbels
New constructon. 7 foot long, 42" tall kitchen island for bar stool use. 1 foot overhang. The counter top will be granite with thickness yet to be determned. I would like to avoid corbels (knee knockers)
My understanding is that granite should not be overhung by this amount. Any suggestions to support the overhang?
Thanks in advance.

make the granite 5 inches thick and no need for support! sorry.... until you know the thickness and weight, there's too many different ways to go. perhaps 3/4 ply under most of it? 1/4" steel plate?

Your granite guy would know best. However if you are the granite guy, of the kitchens I've done in the past with a 1 foot overhang 3/4" ply under 3/4 " granite should be good. Granite running 1 1/14 to 1 1/2 should be ok on its own. In either case I would not bother with the corbels. Anything longer than a foot, I would use them. I've yet to have a call back using this method, however I do tell my customers they are not made to sit on.

Is this a typo? 2 mm is about 1/10th of an inch.

I'm guessing it was supposed to be 2cm.

Thank you Kiwi
I apologize to all for not being fluent in metric. 2cm would be correct. But my question still stands.

That's about 3/4". You should be ok with 3/4 plywood under. That's plywood, not mdf.

yup..... i'd route the exposed edge to remove 'sharp' corner and maybe paint it flat black. set it back about 2" should be fine.
