newel fixing to stair landing

i have no picture. but there is a false wall there at the moment , that is coming down and being replaced with the newel and handrail and spindles. imagine a landing with nothing there only the floor. i was thinking of housing out the newel post to fit around the floor and then it will sit on the top tread, fixing it to the floor joist. ( im not very good at explaining myself ) sorry that i had no picture

cheers joanna

It's not very clear what you need or want... just google newel fastener. LJ Smith has a pretty good site.

This would be much easier if you took a picture, unloaded to a free hosting site, and posted the link here.

even easier is hit the 'post reply'/manage attachments/choose/upload/type your response and submit. offsite links don't work sometimes...

=o)
