New and need help

I am new to this forum, so please forgive any redundancy. I need to rehang some doors in my home, and I don't really have any help, except my 7 year old son. I am not sure how to go about this. Any advice, guidelines, or suggestions would be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks.
Mike

Are you replacing the slabs only or installing pre-hung doors? You may want to try the search function at the top of the page also.

Prehung doors are the easiest to install. They come with the door jamb and hinges pre-installed on the door. You could tackle this project by yourself with little or no help. They do not come with door knobs; you will need to purchase them.

You will also need shims, a level, 2 1/2-inch finish nails, a screwdriver, and a prybar to remove the old casing (trim), for installation. I suggest reading a quick overview of the installation procedure- which can be found on the web or in this forum using the search function.

Good Luck.
Darwin.

Would it be easy to rehang existing doors with only the hardware being changed?

Hardware meaning all 3 hinges, and door knobs? Yes.

I would get 2 saw horses and lay the removed door on them. Then I would use a cordless drill with a phillips head to remove all hinges and the door knobs. Take a hinge down to the local supply shop and get a correct match (size wise) so you don't have to do any additional chiseling to make them fit. If hinge screw holes are damaged when you take them off, this could be a problem with the door's strength and integrity.

That is why I would recommend replacing with a prehung door. They cost about $50 bucks. Now compare the cost of replacing all the hinges and door knobs on 1 door, this price is about equal to the price of a new door!
