need recommendations for window replacement inside old door

I have an old door at the ground level which has a this window insert consisting of a bunch of glass panels that can be all turned with a handle (see photo where the panels are closed). Needless to say, it does not provide good insulation. Rather than replacing the whole door which is overall in a pretty decent shape, I want to replace this old window insert with a regular window that is well insulated. Can you recommend what sort of window I should pick? I am not sure what the exact size of the opening is but the insert measures about 21" wide by 33" high. I want it to be clear. Thank you!

I would go with some sort of plexiglass or lexan. Tempered glass is required in doors for good reason.

Is there a trim you can remove and then remove the window unit and something new can be inserted and then the factory trim re-installed?

If so, how thick does the new unit need to be so the factory trim will fit and hold properly?

Is this a metal or wood door?

The door is wood 1 5/8" thick. I am not sure whether it has a trim or not. Maybe this poorly lit closeup picture will help...

Contact a local glazier, they will be able to replace this inefficient jalosie unit with an insulated low e replacement.
