Need help with canopy (wood and base)
I need to build something like this.
I was planning on just using pressure treated 4x4 posts and some type of trim board for the tops. I'm not sure what type of wood actual lumber yards carry. I'm only familiar with the big box stores. The wood needs to be painted and needs to have a finished look. The only posts I could find at the big box stores are cedar and pressure treated. Do the lumber yards carry 4x4 posts that are not pressure treated or of a higher quality wood? Also, what type of wood would you recommend for the top boards. I'm thinking about using 1x6 pine or just using some type of decking wood.
The final question has to do with the base. Do you have any suggestions as far as the base goes. I need something that can weigh it down, so it doesn't blow over from wind. I'm thinking about some kind of boot (possibly metal) that bolts to it.
Any help would be appreciated.
4x4's composite post sleeves
Check these composite manufacturers:
As for the footings for the posts...will this be temporary or permanent? If temporary, they have temporary footings for posts...Can't recall the name but Landscape guys/Deck guys would know. You can find them at the Big Box Stores.
Let me know if none of the above actually helped
It will be a temporary structure that needs to be moved. Are the footings you are referring to the concrete ones? I'll look at the box stores to see if I can find anything. If you find out what they are called, let me know.
Big box stores carry 4x4 doug fir posts. You can run them through a planer or sand them for the required look.
