MH Ready Patch or Bondo....

I'm installing Soss hinges in standard 1 3/8 door.
The Hinges are monster...and in some area, the skin of the door is broken.

Help me pick my poison. MH Ready Patch or Bondo to just *skim* the missing area of skin where the hinge is at. Ready Patch is easier to sand right ?

I'm trying to recall but I remember using my Steel Files on Bondo..

MH Ready Patch or Bondo....

Do you need to repair structure at all and drill or rout this for new hinges?

MH Ready Patch is better to use with wood. I am not sure how Bondo became a popular wood patching material because it is a fiberglass type resin.

You might also consider a wood restoration epoxy like products from Abatron. You can color them and tool them with normal woodworking tools.

MH Ready Patch or Bondo....

I find them both easy to sand. They both paint well too.

MH Ready Patch or Bondo....

No structure at all. This hinge is much bigger than a Soss..when fitted inside the door, literally the skins is the only wood left in a 1 3/8 door...

So I'm just surface patching the area where *it was week and skin broke off* ....as the doors are paint grade

MH Ready Patch or Bondo....

I always seem to fall back on Durhams Rock Hard Water Putty. Just be quick, when it starts to set, it hardens faster than Bondo. It looks like what they fill knot holes in the veneer of plywood with.
