mantle at brick

Looking for a good way to install a wood mantle at this brick fireplace. Are there some simple designs out there? How would you anchor it securely?

The simplest way would be to buy a mantle kit, there are many out it. The manufacture will likely include the mounting instructions.

Are you making the mantle yourself, or is it already
made and you're asking how to attach it?

Build your mantel where it will slip over a 2X4 that would be mounted on the brick wall. Glue and screw or lag the 2X4 to the brick wall, slip the mantel over the 2X4, screw or nail to the 2X4 from the top back. If you plan on legs on the mantel it will help support it also. I use to build some of them in place, and some off site but that is the way we secured to brick.
