Lock part for Vintage Schlage privacy lock?
So, all our interior doorknobs are of the same style, but the one I am inquiring about is a privacy door with a push-button lock on the inside and a key hole on the outside. Through the years, the key-hole has been ruined (due to forced opening of the door with screwdrivers, etc., when the key wasn't available). I need to replace that lock-part. The rest of the doorknob works fine, but if the door inadvertantly gets locked from the push-button side, I need to be able to unlock it.
Our local locksmith says the lock part cannot be repaired and the lock part is no longer available. Any ideas of how I can restore the doorknob (and continue to have all the interior doors have the same look)?
Thanks, in advance! :)
Do a search on ebay, every once in a while, someone will be selling old locks like that.
I have learned that at some point, everything will end up on ebay.
Tell your locksmith to find the plug from an old Schlage wafer lock (A52WD) and pull all of the wafers out of it. Install that in place of the privacy plug. It will work in a privacy set and give you the same functionality. You'll still be able to unlock the door with a small screw driver if need be. FYI, you shouldn't be able to accidently lock yourself out with one of these since they automatically unlock when the door is pushed shut.
