I had to Google also Michael as I have never heard of a kite tread either but I see why they call it that.

You will not find a place that sells a kite tread as there are just too many variables that will make that tread in different dimensions. You will have to buy a blank and cut it yourself.

How are you planning on attaching the tread to the rough framing?
Glue and nail. These are exsisting pine treads that look like crap and the soft ring has worn away. Bought 11 1/2 by 36 at depot fot 21 dollars a piece. Think i am going to get two big one and spline and poxy them together and then cut the winder out. What do you think. What is a good brand of poxy to use. For the spline.

You don't need a spline or epoxy, just edge glue them together with yellow glue. What you need to be concerned with is seasonal wood movement. If you use construction adhesive and nails on a large winder tread it will split over time.
How do you suggest fastening them. What if i nail them at an angle

Here is what I do.

Put the winder tread down before the next riser. Then place the riser on top of the winder tread.

Since squeaks are usually from wood moving up and down on a nail, I'd put adhesive at the point of the walk line. I.E. the place where you would normally step when using the stair. Not too many nails everywhere else. This always the tread to move both in front of the adhesive and behind it.

But to be honest, I always house my treads and avoid this problem.

Hey thanks a lot. I guess i am going to replace the risers on those steps.

I don't mind sqeaks. They let you know someone is there. It adds character to the house,

What do you mean by house , i am unfamilular with that term. Do you mean leave them in the house before in stalling them?
