Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers

Hi I am installing a new kitchen and have been shopping for cabinets. we are doing semi-custom painted white shaker style cabinets and there seems to be a ton of options out there. Any experience with a particular manufacturer that you really liked? I am very picky when it comes to quality but at the same time I understand that these are not custom cabinets. And No, I dont have time to build them myself : -)
Thanks in advance for any advice or reviews...

I like Kraftmade for a decent quality cabinet at an affordable price. Upgrade to dovetail drawer boxes and full extension undermount glides, and use the money saved over a custom brand to consider one of their "premium" finishes, or true paneled ends on the boxes instead of the typical loose door panel that you stick on the surface. Granted, the quality of the finish will not be quite up one of the custom manufacturers, such as DuraSupreme, etc; but neither will the price.

There are almost always custom or semi-custom dealers and cabinet makers everywhere. They are almost always heads above anything in big box stores. Features/options are many, but they usually are plywood boxes(no particle board) and quality finishes. They will feature real wood drawers with dovetail joinery.

Haas makes a fine cabinet, see if they are available near you.

Thanks guys- keep em coming if anyone else has recommendations. Ill look into Haas.. Ive seen the Kraftmade and while they arent bad- they definately dont stand up to similar products in the same price range like Koch cabinets. Appreciate the advice!

All my cabinetry ( kit/baths/laundry) is Haas , very happy with them.

Have you thought about a local cabinet maker? Our friends used one and it came in about the same price as cabinets from a large company, but they got better quality and more customization. Make sure you get references and go look at their cabinets.

I guess I assumed that local companies are more $ but Il lgive that a shot. So far seems to be Dura Supreme vs. Koch (no Haas dealers in Denver CO). Thanks for the info....

I know cheap kitchen cabinets shop in Denver. It's called Euro Intelligent Kitchens and they offer cabinets and cabinet parts from Europe. I bought really nice aluminum frames there.

White cabinets seem to be problematic with a few manufacturers. Kraftmaid and Crystal in particular. They have problems finishing the edges so the white stain stays on the doors.

Thanks everyone

I went with Koch cabinets from a local distributor here. Although there were some waranty issues (small issues with the white finish) I am glad that I was able to do something about them. Kitchen turned out fantastic. One thing I didnt care for was the box construction - particularly the plastic corner braces. They were otherwise great and very reasonable (comparative to Kraftmade price-wise). Full extension, soft close, dovetails, plywood and 3/4 inch MDF construction, but I would have liked to see more corner bracing. Not that Ive ever seen a cabinet come out of square or collapse inward but hey- it would be nice. Anyway thanks for the info!

If you are as picky as I am, you will stay away from particle board, and anything from a big box..

Check out The Designer Gold Series Cabinets from Medallion ( an Elkay company ).. Door sytle Potters Mill ( or Bayside, if a reverse raised panel is required) in Maple- White Icing or Divinity White.. Very well built cabinet.. Above a Kraftmaid, but priced similiar.. I sell both.. Good Luck

Barker cabinets in Oregon. Shipped flat, great quality, Blum hinges and slides and made to order in one inch increments. Unfinished paint quality shaker doors at no extra cost. If you can measure, twist a screwdriver and paint, you can't go wrong.
