Keeping Door Propped Open

My wife always likes to keep the door to the garage propped open a foot or so. Several reasons really, give the cat access, keep the garage a bit cooler and more ventilated, etc. She currently accomplishes this in pretty crude fashion- wedges a folding chair in between the door and the wall or the door and the frame. As I just painted the door and wall, I need to find a better way. The door is a good 6" above the garage floor, so a simple door stop won't work.

My first attempt was a chain bolted to the back of the door and to the wall in the garage. Works ok, but the chain makes a lot of noise when the door is open and knocks stuff over.

Then I thought about the pneumatic door closers commonly used on commercial doors. Look nice, a bit pricey, but I can't seem to find one that will lock in a particular position. Then, there are the storm/screen/patio door closers. Most (at least what I've seen at Home Depot/Lowes) seem very flimsy and I doubt will last very long with a solid-core wooden door.

What other options are there? Should be easy to use, pretty unobtrusive, and be able to keep the door open both a small distance from closing and open all the way (for bringing groceries in and out and such).

How about a small C clamp on the track under the bottom roller?

Your track doesn't have holes in the sides?
Usually there are holes & the lock system can be used to keep the door open
I've also seen people do this with a drill & pin

Sorry, it is not the rollup garage door, it is the door from the garage to the kitchen. Just a standard interior (but solid-core) door.

I think he is talking about man door in the garage not a garage door.

Oops,

You could make a simple wedge. You say you have ~ 6" between the bottom of the door and the floor. Take about a 12" long 2x6 and to one 1½" edge screw a 2x2 perpendicular to it at one end. You can also screw in another vertical piece as a handle.

You could also make a more defined wedge using power tools.
