Jerry Rigged Gas Fireplace

Alright guys

Thanks for your help with my bathroom tile issue. Time to move on to my next project.

Before winter gets here i'd like to get my fireplace working. I want to disconnect the gas line to it. The PO had a gas line rigged in the fireplace from the basement, I see the line going in to the fireplace. Would i be able to just yank it out and cap it or should i just get a professional to do it. If so, who would i call? Gas company?

Many thanks in advance again.

just to tell a little about the house
My house was a foreclosure, noboy lived in it for 2 years. Bought it on march 2008.

You didn't say how old this foreclosed house is, but I'd have the flue inspected and make sure it is in good shape first.
