Insulating my basement

Hey guys, I want to finish my basement to add additional living space and have some questions. Ive been researching this a bit, so my questions still roll on. The basement does not leak at all, and have a dehumidifer down there to keep the RH down( Live in New England). I ripped the old wood walls down( dont ask, previous owner, it looked like a barn stable), and the very thin fiberglass insulation. I want to install polystyrene insulation directly to the walls. There is currently a plastic sheet layer, assuming for a vapor barrier which is a tad moist behind it. * I should just remove the plastic barrier and let the walls dry then adhease the board insulation to the walls, and not keep plastic there ,correct?* and should I use 1 inch thick or bigger?* I have large a Stone Hearth for my wood stove that goes up the whole wall and covers the chimney, so no hot areas should be exposed. *Im assuming there is codes for insulating near a stove but dont know what they are.*And i want to put laminate flooring down when its all said and done, Ive seen sites where it says i can insulate the floor with board as well, any suggestions? Thanks guys, looking forward to adding more space to my home!!

Insulating my basement

“I should just remove the plastic barrier and let the walls dry then adhease the board insulation to the walls, and not keep plastic there ,correct?” --- correct.

“and should I use 1 inch thick or bigger?” ----- bigger, 2” closed-cell for more savings- Table 5; http://www.buildingfoundation.umn.ed...timum-main.htm And page #9: http://www.eere.energy.gov/buildings...s/db/35017.pdf

“Im assuming there is codes for insulating near a stove but dont know what they are.” – check with your local Building Department when you get the permit to finish the basement.

“And i want to put laminate flooring down when its all said and done, Ive seen sites where it says i can insulate the floor with board as well, any suggestions? “----- yes, use foam board; http://www.buildingscience.com/docum...lation-systems

End of article for alternative; http://www.buildingscience.com/docum...ms?full_view=1
Foam board and canned foam the rim joists, ADA the drywall, sill sealer under the p.t. bottom plate for capillary/thermal/air break, hold drywall 1/2" up above slab, s.s. nails in p.t. wood, etc.....
