installing new french patio doors

Hi all,

Newbie here. I'm planning to remove an existing aluminum window and put a french patio door in its place. I need some advice on how to tackle this. I'm also planning to reuse the window.

The new door is pre-hung and 72" x 80". Do I need to add flashing or water proofing outside? do I need to install new headers?

Please help.

Thanks.

Is the door width the same size as the old window width?

Check This book out from the library.
http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Doors...0590669&sr=8-1
It has a section on adding doors where no doors were previously. I'm willing to bet your current header is either not as wide as your french doors or your current header is too low. Either way this book will help. It will show you how to remove the window. When the window is gone you treat the wall as if it were a full wall and follow the directions on installing a new door. Seriously...this book is what you need. It will walk you through it step by step.

If not take a picture or two, get the window height from the floor and width measurements and I'll try to walk you through what i would do.
