I am planning to install a handrail and pickets some time this week. I already have all the parts and it is pretty straight forward once I figure out the spacing of the pickets...but.. I am a little confused as to how to secure the handrail. It fits between a wall and an exsisting post. The only way that I can think of is to pre dill and toe screw up through the bottom of the handrail. Is there a more sturdy option or trick that I'm not thinking of? Thanks everyone.
the prpoer way to attach the rail to the post is with a railbolt. The sell these at home depot where they sell the stairparts. They come with a template for drilling. Cut your rail to length so it fits snug between the wall and the post. Take a rosette and scribe a line at the end of the rail where the wall is. Cut the rail on your scribe line and attach the rosette to the end of the rail from the back of the rosette with a couple of drywall screws. Attach rail in place. When attaching the rail bolt side, it is easier to flip the rail upside down to get the nut started. Good luck
