How was wooden fence built

My neighbor had a privacy fence built that I like a lot. I have been trying very hard to figure how they built it. The top seems pretty straight but the bottom appears to follow the uneven ground. The spacing is all done very nicely. Anyone care to comment on the basics of building a wooden fence on uneven ground?

Tight string up top to set the height. A wood jig to place between boards to set spacing.

Fences on uneven ground should be plumb but not necessarily level. Nothing looks worse to my eye than when someone tries to make their fence level when the ground is not. I just drove by a recently completed stockade fence. One end of the twenty foot run is on the ground.nthe other end a cow could walk under.

Saddle for every a$$.......

On uneven ground, just my personal taste, I like a stepped fence. (Can be more expensive to build as having different size picketts involved)

Best

If you work at it, your fence can look as good as mine. Yeah, there were some issues, but I handled them...

Well, I knew it wasn't Willie's fence so I didn't bite.

To be truthful, there are a couple of fences in my neighborhood that don't look much better than that one.

fence posts should be plumb and fencing boards fit plumb onto fence railing and the bottom of fencing cuts to contour of land with tops being the most even (level)overall with posts set at height to work with grade of land as well.

if fencing fits between posts then even spacing outward from the center of the space is used just like a deck pickett spacing.

Ya know.... Isn't it an issue of design, personal taste, consistant with the area issue (white picket/verse ranch rail/verse chain link/ and I guess even verse barbed wire).

Is it an actual privacy objective, tall and unbroken pickets, or just definitional/decorative, lower and open with filials decorative elements.

Maybe, driving the neighborhood, deciding on what you like... and then the best advice I can give you, put in what your wife says.

Best

Peter
