How should I match this trim from the stairs to the baseboard?

After doing the flooring and installing new (bigger) trim I have to figure out how to transition from the stairs to the baseboard. Any tips?

Reverse the angle of that trim in the bottom picture on the right that's against the case moulding at the top to where it meets the top of the skirt moulding.
Why the change in height of the base?
Unless you have higher then 8' ceilings I'd keep the shorter base.

I would cut the stair trim vertical. Cut a soldier out of 1x2, 1/2" higher than tall base. Nail it to stair trim so it sticks out from wall 1 1/2". Bring tall trim around corner and die into soldier.

Run the short one around the corner and let it die against the door casing. Just that short a run won't be very noticeable to anyone but you.
