How to hang something from vinyl siding house

Looking to probably build an arbor above our garage doors but cannot figure how to attach it to the actual house. Should I expect to cut out part of the vinyl? Or hang on the vinyl? What is protocol?

Is this on a Gable end?
Usually peel off the siding and attach directly and reinstall needed flashings and siding

never hang anything off of vinyl it has no holding power. you need to mount a j-block on the wall first then side into the jblock

take off the siding, and put a ledger board on the house, build whatever you want, reinstall siding and flash it

Jblocks around here are for lights and such, how would you use that for mounting a ledger board?

ahhh didntt see the part about the ledger. in that case you have to remove the siding then install the ledger . then install j channel around the ledger and re install the siding

It would be much easier to just set posts to hold the arbor instead of attaching it to the house. In addition, if you do this, it would give you the option of removing the arbor at a future time if your tastes changed.

I thought an arbor was a stand alone trellised arched entry into a garden area? What would something like this be doing above a garage door?
