How do I frame around existing exterior door?
I am finishing my basement and have an existing french door that I need to frame around. The concrete is 8" thick and the door is framed and set into that, how do I frame for drywall and trim? Do I need an extended jamb? I am attaching a pdf of the layout of the basement, the blue line is where the drywall will sit after framing is done. You can see the 8" concrete as the exterior section. There is currently no interior framing to go off of. I will try to get a picture and add it to the post today, thanks.

How do I frame around existing exterior door?
I made the pictures viewable, sorry. I am not trying to replace the doors, we are finishing the basement and not sure how to frame and finish around them, especially on the side that is in the corner. It just seems really deep to frame out like a normal door, there is also not really any room for trim on the side that is in the corner.....

I can't get to the photos with the words. Can you just provide a clickable link?

How do I frame around existing exterior door?
I would drop the framing down to a 2x2 once it gets past the window. In the actual corner, I'd build it out so it matches the 2x4 wall, in thickness, on the otherside. If you need extension jambs, balance the framing on both sides of the door.
Who ever put that door in wasn't a master planner.

How do I frame around existing exterior door?
Thanks for making the link work Danny. Would it be ok to just make the whole side wall 2x2 even around the window Ron? That way I wont have a jog in the middle of the wall? The builder tried to make the basement as hard as possible since we didn't pay them to finish it, many of the things they did just don't make sense and we are trying to work around them.

With 2x2's, you really need to go with wall attachment as opposed to the traditional framing method. That's a more involved task.

IMHO ....... I would leave the framing as is. Put a peice of framing that butts up flush against the finish door jamb on the right side and when you trim it out, just trim the left and top and use 1/4" x whatever width is needed on the left to cover up the framing as you won't have enough room for trim. The only other solution is to reinstall the door further to the left which would no doubt be cost prohibitive. This way you will get the insulation and a straight wall on the left,
