how to cut acute angle on tablesaw

I have paneled a ceiling in a room in my cottage that has a cathedral ceiling. Now to finish it off and have a flat surface for a light fixture to hang from the apex I want to cut a piece of 1x6 to sit tight against both sides of the ceiling. The angle I need is 153 degrees.. How can I rip the pices on my tablesaw. Thanks

You would have to cut the board on edge to get that angle with a table saw.

Be careful---that is best done with a zero clearance insert for the blade so the board doesn't drop down along side of the blade---there are ways of making that cut safely---but a jig will need to be made---

You need a jig like this designed for making raised panels.

the 1x6 is all 90 degree angles forming the squareness of the piece. a 12 pitch rood would need a 45 degree cut to fit the angle and the angle goes up from there for lower pitched roof systems. for example a 2 pitch would be something like 81 degrees... like everyone mentioned you will need a jig/guide for the saw with the piece placed on a vertical orientation to the blade. for the two pitch roof you would need to set the blade on the saw at 9 degrees, 81 minus 90.

That cut is more safely done with a circular saw and the 1x6 laying flat. Before I would make a jig and cut it standing up, I would cut it with a handsaw. Cut the angle a little sharper than the roof angle so the edge lays tight against the ceiling.

From your description do you mean you are ripping the 1 x 6 the entire length of the room? When you say 153 degrees do you mean the obtuse angle taken from a horizontal line equal to 180 degrees from each opposite side? It would seem the angle you want to set the saw at would be the acute angle of 27 degrees, 180 - 153 = 27 degrees. To get the cut to the very edge I have fastened a wood fence to the saws rip fence and the 27 degree blade can touch it without damage. When ripping hold the pressure on the 1 x 6 before the blade and have someone guide it from the ripped end for the last foot to prevent dipping into the insert slot. The sharper the blade the better to reduce cutting friction.
