Well sam, after some controversy and discussion today about what's allowed on the forum I'll just say there is some information on google because I'm confused. Just don't waist your time on eHow.

Posting links is allowed--but a cut and paste is not ---MODERATOR

What exactly are you trying to do? What wood? What tools do you have access to?

Paint grade or stained?

you cut little kerfs in the top side of top jamb spaced about 1" apart and 1/8" or 3/16th deep to get the bend or use a bendable product like cpvc or flex mould/ trim...

Building an arched clamping template and laminating several layers of thin stock (using exterior glue) is a safe way---takes a lot of clamps---

I've used heat to bend Azek (PVC) a few times now with good results, it would be prefect for an exterior frame imo. More time goes into the templates than the bending itself.

This video shows you the process I've used. They sell "Heating systems" that are pretty slick (and expensive). The poor man method shown in the vid has worked well for me.

I recall my dad showing me a couple of the ones that he did as a young man, using a boiling hog kettle and jigs, but that was a few years back, and things change. More recently, I have used hand drive's and Mike's techniques the few times that it has come up. Obviously best to start with some scrap, to get a feel for that bend but don't break median.

I have done several over the years.I find that the best way is to laminate several thin pieces together using a jig if this is to be stained as finished as Mike suggested.
A lot depends on the type of wood which you did not state. If it's oak this will work well.If it's pine it a little harder.Tell us the type of wood and finish and we can give you a better answer.
