How to attach volute to newel

I'm redoing my stairs, and I am doing an over the top rail, right now I have the volute and it's predrilled, I also have an over the top newel which has a matching peg of the same size as the volute hole.

The volute is solid wood, not split or anything like some systems. Do I just wood glue this in place, or is there another way you make the permanent connection between the newel and the volute?

I like gorilla glue where urethane can cushion less than perfect fits.

How to attach volute to newel

In this condition, I had only applied wood glue to the dowels on the volute balusters and newel post and insert them into the holes on the stair treads.

How to attach volute to newel

I usually glue and put screw through top of rail into post then plug with a 3/8 bung to match. Have you cut you post to proper height and pitch cut you volute easement?
