hidden deck fastners

Is the Tiger Claw hidden deck fastener a good fastener for 5/4" Southern Pine decking board attachment. I am in the process of planning the reconditioning of an existing deck. I plan on removing the existing 2x6 old, worn decking (keeping the structure) and replacing with new 5/4" decking boards. I would like to attach the new decking with hidden fasteners... access from below is good if needed. Is there another hidden fastener that anyone would recommend over the Tiger Claw brand?

:) Do your homework.

Lots of options.

Lots of opinions.

Most over rated and over priced in estimation of many fine builders.

Tiger Claw sounds and looks like a great idea... the application of it may be fine on smaller Decks.
If the deck is a 800 - 900 square foot deck and if you are dipping into your retirement for your new deck... why you may just find your entire retirement fund is depleted with Mr tiger claw!

Also keep in mind, if the framing is not in very good condition, the Tiger Claw is only as good as the strenght of the fibers in the wood. I suspect that your framing may be in question in this case.

Try this product if available down there: http://www.correctdeck.com/products/...cx/default.htm

The fasteners screw down into the framing. Check out the results here:http://www.crossworksme.com/Complete...ble%20Deck.htm

Good Luck!

Nice Work CrossWorks.
Lot of Work yet a cool effect when all is said and done with the patterns in the decking.

I used 2" galvanized staples on mine.... they're hardly noticeable.

Crossworks,

Just looked over that project - looks good. One big thing, you DO know that ACQ lumber and aluminum don't play nicely together, don't you? The aluminum strips on the back of your ledger board will corrode and rot away leaving you with ...

And yes, putting spacers behind the ledger board to make it stand off from the house has been done before in many different ways... this would be one -

They are sold by the box of 90, or bucket of 900. Ther are different types for different kinds of deck boards. Your best bet is to contact a local building or lumber supply house/yard. (FWIW - 90 fasteners cover approximately 50 SF of 5/4 deck boards attached at 16" O.C.)
